LAAR Squadrons

Abstract

Light Attack Armed Reconnaissance (LAAR) program will acquire an aircraft with modifications to satisfy the requirement for conducting strike, armed reconnaissance and advanced aircraft training for Irregular Warfare (IW) operations in support of Building Partnership Capacity (BPC) for lesser developed partner nations (PN). This program provides a CONUS based capability to support irregular warfare efforts that help prepare PN to defend and govern themselves by demonstrating a light armed and reconnaissance capability that is consistent with their needs for supporting infrastructure, performance, anticipated methods of employment, acquisition and sustainment costs, and multi-role/multi-mission capability. LAAR is for training U.S. pilots to train PN pilots; not for USAF combat employment. Funding for LAAR is Budget Activity (BA) 05, System Development and Demonstration (SDD) because it has passed Milestone B approval and is conducting engineering and manufacturing development tasks aimed at meeting validated requirements prior to full-rate production.
