RQ-11 UAV

Abstract

The Small Unit Remote Scouting System (SURSS) acquisition program procures multiple unmanned aircraft systems (UAS) to provide the company/detachment level with scalable airborne reconnaissance and surveillance to aid in detecting, identifying, engaging, or avoiding enemy units. SURSS consists of three UAS platforms the RQ-12A Wasp, RQ-11B Raven, and the RQ-20A Puma. SURSS is transitioning from 8 channel to a Digital Data Link (DDL), while pursuing Tactical Sensor Network Suite (TSN2) technology. TSN2 technology provides enhanced opportunities to detect irregular and asymmetric threats in a variety of domains, to include urban domains, providing the warfighter with enhanced situational awareness and understanding. In concert with TSN2 technology development, efforts to research and test technologies that improve UAV range, endurance, reliability, and maintainability will be pursued.
