LIGHT MOBILITY AIRCRAFT (LIMA)
Abstract
The Light Mobility Aircraft (LiMA) program will fill an Air Force light mobility gap by acquiring Commercial-Off-The-Shelf (COTS) aircraft, which are also suitable for building partner capacity (BPC) especially in lesser developed partner nations (PN). Suitable aircraft may be single or multi-engine, fixed-wing and capable of operating from austere, unprepared surfaces. This program supports irregular warfare efforts that help prepare partner nations to defend and govern themselves by demonstrating an airlift capability that is consistent with their needs for supporting infrastructure, performance, anticipated methods of employment, acquisition and sustainment costs, and multi-role/multi-mission capability. FY2012 RDT&E funding will be used for efforts and products such as systems engineering strategy and analysis, risk analysis and management, test and evaluation strategy, life cycle cost estimates, sustainment and logistics analysis, and acquisition strategy baseline planning and analysis. It will also be used to conduct Live Fire Testing, if required. This program is in Budget Activity 7, Operational System Development because this budget activity includes development efforts to upgrade systems that have been fielded or have received approval for full rate production and anticipate production funding in the current or subsequent fiscal year.
