Defense Research Sciences

Abstract

This program consists of extramural research activities in academia and industry along with in-house investigations performed in the Air Force Research Laboratory. This program funds fundamental broad-based scientific and engineering research in areas critical to Air Force weapon systems. All research areas are subject to long-range planning and technical review by both Air Force and tri-Service scientific planning groups. Efforts in this program have been coordinated through the Reliance 21 process to harmonize efforts and eliminate duplication. This program is in Budget Activity 1, Basic Research, because it funds scientific study and experimentation.
