LIFT – Lightweight Innovations for Tomorrow (Lightweight Innovations – materials and processes)

Abstract

Advanced lightweight material can retain properties comparable to heavier, traditional materials, and can enable weight reduction in a variety of components and products with significant energy savings and increased payloads. Scale-up research across multiple areas to accelerate market expansion by applying an integrated materials and manufacturing approach, will address a lack of design guides and certifications as well as affordability and scale-up challenges. The goal is to catalyze the development of an advanced lightweight material U.S. supplier base and to enable DoD to realize greater speed and agility of manned, unmanned, and Warfighter systems as well as benefits for commercial applications.
