Non-Equilibrium Materials

Abstract

The Non-Equilibrium Materials thrust explored materials and materials structures that acquired novel properties when driven far from equilibrium. Work in this thrust examined the physical underpinnings and applications of these systems in areas of interest to the DoD, including next generation electronics, high-performance computing, and sensing. Efforts included the development of topologically protected excitations in electronic materials and fundamental studies of exotic quantum states of matter in periodically driven solid-state systems.
