Trends in use of proton pump inhibitors among adults in the United States from 1999 to 2018

Abstract

Proton pump inhibitors (PPIs) are among the most commonly used drugs in the United States (U.S.). We aimed to determine the trends in use of PPIs among adults in the U.S. from 1999 through 2018, hypothesizing the trend would follow an inverted U‐shaped curve, with a decline in recent years due to safety concerns.
