Torque-dense photomechanical actuation

Abstract

Light driven creasing instabilities in photoactive polymers achieve torque densities comparable to those obtained from electromechanical systems. Photomechanical actuation occurs at ms-time scales and generates torque densities from 1–10 N m kg−1.
