Isolable fluorinated triphenylmethyl cation salts of [HCB11Cl11]−: demonstration of remarkable hydride affinity

Abstract

Hexakis(meta-fluoro)substituted triphenylmethyl cation (F6Tr+) was isolated with a carborane partner anion. Its significantly higher hydride affinity compared to the parent (Tr+) allows it to abstract hydrides from a variety of C(sp3)–H bonds.
