Diurnal pattern in endogenous insulin secretion persists in severely injured patients

Abstract

Intensive insulin therapy decreases mortality due to critical illness but glucose and insulin variability pose a challenge to tight glucose control. We previously demonstrated that circadian rhythms in glucose and exogenous insulin requirement are preserved, and hypothesized that similar patterns in endogenous insulin secretion are also present.
