Prediction of Metal Matrix Composite Response to Multiaxial Stresses

Abstract

A theory is presented which can be used in stress analysis of metal matrix composite in the inelastic range and under multiaxial stress states. Theoretical predictions of composite deformation and damage under various stress states have been experimentally validated. The theory has been incorporated in a finite element analysis framework so that practical design problems can be addressed.
