A Method for Structural Life Predictions Using Time-Domain Non-Linear Dynamic Load Computations

Abstract

Current surface ship structural design criteria is based on the use of a standard wave for determining primary stresses. Although this approach has worked well, such methods do not explicitly account for the effects of transient hydrodynamic impacts, fatigue or their effects on longitudinal distribution other than by empirical “rules of thumb”.
