Smart Power Infrastructure Demonstration for Energy Reliability and Security (SPIDERS)
Abstract
SPIDERS is demonstrating cyber-secure “smart” micro-grids with demand side management and integration of renewable energy and storage on military installations, in partnership with Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and Department of Energy (DOE). The expected output and efficiency to be demonstrated is a reduction in the “unacceptably high risk” of extended electric grid outages by developing the capability to “island” installations while maintaining operational surety and security.
