Engage

Abstract

The Engage program, previously part of the Training for Adaptability thrust, will develop the means for teaching problem solving in complex real-world settings not amenable to conventional curriculum-based approaches. Traditional modes of education place learning before problem solving, but Engage will take an alternative approach by moving problem solving to the core of the educational experience. This will be accomplished by creating problem-solving games that feature combined human-computer reasoning on complex problems and that provide users with immediate feedback and alternative solutions. Engage will also address the difficult problem of connecting performance in the virtual domain with performance in the real world and then will use this knowledge to drive the creation of more effective game-based training.
