Precision Inertial Navigation Systems High Dynamic Range Atom Sensors and Systems (PINS HiDRA)

Abstract

Precision Inertial Navigation Systems High Dynamic Range Atom Sensors and Systems (PINS HiDRA) developed an integrated cold atom-based inertial measurement unit (IMU) suitable for use on a wide range of military platforms. The program built on the work of the Precision Inertial Navigation Systems (PINS) program to dramatically increase the dynamic range of the sensors, thereby enabling operation on aircraft and missiles. Extensive system integration and miniaturization reduced system size, weight, and power, while increasing navigation performance as measured against currently fielded aircraft inertial navigation systems. Technologies from the PINS HiDRA program have transitioned to the Adaptable Navigation Systems program budgeted at PE 0603767E, SEN-01.
