ALMDS

Abstract

The Airborne Laser Mine Detection System (ALMDS), designation AN/AES-1, is a light detection and ranging (LIDAR) Airborne Mine Countermeasures (AMCM) high area coverage system that detects, classifies, and localizes floating and near-surface , moored sea mines. The system is deployed from the MH-60S helicopter and will provide Organic Airborne Mine Countermeasures (OAMCM) defense to the battle force. The system represents a capability that does not exist in the current Mine Countermeasures (MCM) inventory. ALMDS first spiral development phase, very shallow water capability, begins in FY2016.
