Rapid 3D (R3D) Data Generation
Abstract
R3D directly supports the National Defense Strategy’s priority for increased lethality through advanced simulations, synthetic training environments, and by providing superior knowledge of the battlespace during mission preparation and execution. R3D prototypes provide critical battlespace awareness to the warfighter, enabling rapid and accurate decision making at the tactical edge by closing the gap in terrain data for detailed tactical planning. R3D enables the interoperability required for short notice, joint mission rehearsal in addition to creating a common domain for rapid experimentation with future operational concepts. In FY 2019, R3D continued to develop the architecture and groundwork for interoperability across SOF, conventional, and coalition forces. Activities included technical risk reduction and capability gap assessments for the Services, Combatant Commands, and the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency (NGA). R3D also matured algorithms and the system architecture to deliver 3D terrain data on NIPR, SIPR, and JWICS. End user assessments, joint exercises, and iterative test and evaluation activities were incorporated to mature the system concept and design.
