Abstract
High Mobility Artillery Rocket Systems (HIMARS) which is a C-130 transportable, wheeled, indirect fire, rocket/missile system capable of firing all rockets and missiles Multiple Launch Rocket System (MLRS) Family of Munitions (MFOM). The system includes one launcher, two Re-Supply Systems, and the MFOM. HIMARS provides the Marine Air-Ground Task Force (MAGTF)with 24 hour ground-based, responsive General Support/General Support Reinforcing (GS/GSR) indirect fires which accurately engage targets at long range (60+km), with high volumes of lethal fire under all weather conditions throughout all phases of combat operations ashore, to include irregular warfare and distributed operations. HIMARS is a significant improvement over previously fielded ground fire support systems. Expeditionary Indirect Fires provides the Ground Combat Element (GCE) needed to engage multiple threat systems. Development provides for the modernization and obsolescence mitigation of the HIMARS in order to provide improved operational capabilities Funding for NMESIS effort moved from BA7 to BA4 in FY20-FY24 from 0206623M to 0603635M (Proj 7400) in support of: The Navy/Marine Expeditionary Ship Interdiction System (NMESIS) is a major RDT&E effort to develop long term and short term solutions for an Anti-Ship Missile (ASM) capability in support of the Marine Corps Expeditionary Advanced Base Operations (EABO) and the National Defense Strategy approach to build a more lethal Joint Force. The NMESIS project will prototype a USMC system while leveraging other Service-developed missiles to provide a ground based anti-access/area denial, anti-ship capability. In addition, ASM capabilities will be further developed through advanced component improvements and launcher integration into a complex, prototype and unmanned ground vehicle system. Furthermore, the prototyping effort will include the development, design, build, and initial testing of a Remotely Operated Ground Unit Expeditionary (ROGUE) Fires vehicle. ROGUE-Fires is an unmanned ground vehicle based system on a Joint Light Tactical Vehicle (JLTV) chassis, capable of mounting a wide range of missile systems for dynamic force employment and supports the NDS objective to evolve innovative operational concepts. Overall, this effort provides strategic deterrence in the global operational environment through layered missile capability and dynamic force employment.
