Cargo Aerial Delivery

Abstract

Rapid Rigging and DeRigging Airdrop System (RRDAS) reduces rigging times while also providing the capability to rapidly de-rig loads on the drop zone. This will reduce the lead time to prepare Low Velocity Airdrop Load (LVADS) loads while also increasing the survivability of receiving ground forces by ensuring the airdrop loads (to include weapon systems, prime movers, trailers, etc.) are quickly de-rigged and made operational. Joint Precision Air Drop System (JPADS) provides autonomous guidance of payloads dropped from altitudes up to 25,000 feet at increments of 2,000 (2K) and 10,000 (10K) pounds. JPADS allows precise delivery of critical supplies to the Warfighter on the ground while allowing aircraft delivering payloads to fly at significantly safer altitudes. The JPADS 2K Block I Upgrade provides a GPS-denied capability, but the configuration only partially meets the GPS-denied requirement. The next configuration of JPADS must support the full GPS-denied capability, including hardware and software technologies such as night-vision, anti-jam technology, radio-based navigation, low-earth orbit satellites, and M-code.
