Centers of Excellence for Battlefield Capability Enhancements (BCE)

Abstract

Five new Partnership in Research Transition (PIRT) Centers of Excellence were established in 2011 at: Hampton Univ. (Lower Atmospheric Research Using Light Detection and Ranging (Lidar) Remote Sensing); NCA&T State Univ. (Nano to Continuum Multi-Scale Modeling Techniques and Analysis for Cementitious Materials Under Dynamic Loading); Delaware State Univ. (Center for Advanced Algorithms); Howard Univ.(2) (Bayesian Imaging and Advanced Signal Processing for Landmine and Improvised Explosive Device (IED) Detection Using Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR), and Extracting Social Meaning From Linguistic Structures in African Languages). These Centers were selected to: enhance programs and capabilities through Army-relevant, topic-focused, near-transition-ready innovative research; strengthen the capacity of the HBCUs to provide excellence in education; and to conduct research critical to the national security functions of the DoD.
