Biomarkers of Exposure and Environmental Biomonitoring (measurement of the body’s response to toxic chemical compounds, elements, or their metabolites, in biological substances)

Abstract

This effort supports refinement and evaluation of methods to detect exposure to environmental contaminants and toxic chemicals during military operations. This effort develops an integrated experimental and computational platform to characterize host responses to environmental hazards in terms of pathogenic (disease causing) and adaptive processes, yielding mechanistically based drug targets and molecular diagnostics. The funding for this research effort was previously in project VB4 and moved to project 869 in FY17.
