Future Concepts and Planning
Abstract
This activity funds Missile Defense System architecture and future concept development, and efforts and studies to address the emergent threat, including DoD Analyses of Alternatives if directed. - Participate in designated Office of the Secretary of Defense activities or analyses, as directed by Congress - Perform Missile Defense System capability gap analysis, and analyze and document architecture alternatives and/or new technologies to address gaps - Develop architecture overviews, capability evolution plans, integrated system schedules, and top-level requirements - Develop Architecture Requirements Packages to establish functional, performance and integration planning requirements for next generation weapons and sensors to counter future threats - Identify architecture alternatives that improve Missile Defense System performance and are complementary to and interoperable with NATO systems and theaters around the world - Conduct technology development reviews for future/follow-on Missile Defense System Element development efforts - Update concept capability documentation based on architectural options, trade studies, and technology development experiments - Maintain a dialog with the Warfighter community for all Missile Defense System engineering and technical issues: -- Inform Warfighter development of the Joint IMAND Portfolio Priority List (JIPPL) by providing relevant System data -- Develop updates to the digital version of the Achievable Capabilities List as required -- Support MDA Wargame planning, execution, and analysis - Develop updates to the digital version of the Future Architecture Roadmap as required - Provide prioritized strategic architecture thrusts to inform Agency Science and Technology (S&T) investments - Maintain the MDA Director's Strategic Planning War-Room and the Strategic Vision for the Agency - Lead collaborative effort to improve foreign partners' understanding of existing system capabilities, architectural performance and operational concepts of the Missile Defense System Specific and/or unique accomplishments to each FY are as follows:
