Biological Robustness in Complex Settings (BRICS)

Abstract

The Biological Robustness in Complex Settings (BRICS) program will develop innovative approaches to engineer forensic microbial systems, creating unique microbial signatures for environmental forensic operations. Integrating the fundamental component technologies developed under PE 0601101E, TRS-01, this program will focus on engineering microbial communities, detection signatures, and mechanisms to enable the potential safe deployment of engineered systems in open environments. The resulting technologies will improve the speed and portability of detection and analysis systems for microbiome forensics, thereby enabling the addition of more advanced functions such as identifying objects that have come in contact with a labeled environment of interest.
