Intelligent Sensing for Remote & Field Care (IS4RFC)

Abstract

This project prototyped an innovative ultrasound imaging system to enhance small unit medical self-sufficiency at the tactical edge in support of future distributed warfighting concepts, such as the Army Multi-Domain Operations and the U.S. Marine Corps (USMC) Expeditionary Advanced Base Operations. These concepts involve units separated by large geographic distances and operating in austere environments with area denial challenges, which necessitate the need for intelligent medical devices that support trauma care in the field by overwhelmed or inexperienced care providers. Access to imaging systems at the tactical edge is a critical enabler, providing combat medical personnel with a new and more accurate tool to diagnose and triage the wounded. Prototype development initiated in FY 2022.
