Engineering Architectures

Abstract

In May 2022, the Under Secretary of Defense for Research and Engineering (USD(R&E)) implemented organizational improvements to assist the DoD in working rapidly and collaboratively. The improvements established the Office of Systems Engineering and Architecture and stressed that engineering is fundamental and a cross cutting discipline for the Department. The Office is a direct report to the USD(R&E). A growing number of military capabilities are achieved through a system of systems (SoS) approach which brings together a set or arrangement of systems integrated into a larger system. Project Code 152 activities include the following functions: • Provide technical assistance to support on-going and future DoD System of System Architecture efforts for Joint capabilities. • Develop and provide DoD-level guidance to ensure systems engineering rigor is being applied to the development of systems of systems architectures.
