2009QRF0007_Angle of Attack Transmitter (AOAT) Probe Torque Tester
Abstract
The objective of this project was to fabricate and demonstrate the utility of a prototype, on-aircraft tester for the angle-of-attack (AOA) probe for the F/A-18 E/F. Prior to the start of this project, AOA probes were functionally checked by hand during aircraft preflight checks. This method provides inconsistent results leading to mission aborts. The ability to detect a failure prior to launch will reduce mission abort rate and help reduce the hazard probability associated with a stuck or binding AOA probe.
