2009QRF0025_AN/TPS Radar Weather Processing Capability (TWPC)
Abstract
The project objective is to meet a USAF Central Command (USAFCENT) warfighter operational need for a common networked weather radar sight picture across USCENTCOM Area of Operations (AOR) to enhance safety of flight using the AN/TPS-75 (TPS-75) radars currently in theater. The intent of this effort is to mitigate unnecessary risks associated with mission-impacting weather and to provide more time for decision-makers to take required actions (e.g., adjust combat operations or safeguard combat resources). USAFCENT/A3W estimates 1-2 sorties per year are involved in some level of aircraft mishap which could be avoided with better weather surveillance. Use of existing deployed TPS-75 defense radars will eliminate the need to purchase and deploy additional radars to provide the same data.
