SSA Environmental Monitoring
Abstract
In FY13, the project 65A038, SSA Environmental Monitoring (SSAEM), was terminated. The sensors that are currently under contract will be available for rideshare on the Constellation Observing System for Meteorology Ionosphere and Climate (COSMIC-2) satellite system or other available host platform. Space Situational Awareness Environmental Monitoring (SSAEM) replenishes the critical space weather sensing capability de-manifested from the next-generation weather program. It develops new on-orbit sensors that will detect ionospheric scintillation, supports information pertaining to GPS outages, prediction of effects of ionospheric density and electric fields and ensures data distribution to the user community. Current sensor development contract period of performance will continue through FY14 to deliver sensors currently under development.
