B-52 Quad Crew
Abstract
Modernization to the B-52 Electronic Warfare systems is critical for situational awareness, self-protection and survivability in a contested environment. The Quad Crew Program will better integrate the ALQ-172 Line Replaceable Units (LRUs) capability and provide more inherent capabilities allowing it to be more fully automated. The planned automation and integration plan will remove the need for a sole function Electronic Warfare Officer (EWO) on the B-52. The Quad Crew Program supports reduction in B-52 crew size by automating Electronic Warfare Officer duties and relocating control/monitor functions to the Navigator Station. The Quad Crew program also includes expansion of frequency band capability within the ALQ-172 to absorb antiquated systems and manual jammers that current require an additional crew member. To allow movement of this capability, there will be modifications to hardware and infrastructure on the B-52H and layouts of the down stairs crew stations. Funds may be used to address requirements including, but not limited to, emerging and short-notice Diminishing Manufacturing Sources and Material Shortages (DMSMS) for both aircraft and associated training systems, Development Testing (DT)/ Operational Testing (OT), and safety of flight issues. Additionally, funds may accommodate Program Management Administration (PMA) and support, civilian pay expenses, rapid technology insertion, and fulfill Federal Aviation Agency (FAA) or other mandates necessary to ensure continued aircrew safety and mission effectiveness.
