Global Force Mgt Initative

Abstract

The Global Force Management Data Initiative (GFM DI) is a Joint Staff and OSD initiative designed to standardize component force structure representations, making them visible, accessible, and understandable across the Department of Defense (DoD). Unique identifiers associate billets, crews, equipment, and chain of command links, enabling electronic manipulation and operational planning across multiple systems. Through establishment of an information exchange data standard, GFM DI enables DoD systems to exchange force structure data in a common format while exploiting the net-centric data environment. This program is in Budget Activity 7, Operational System Development, because this budget activity includes development efforts to upgrade systems that have been fielded or have received approval for full rate production and anticipate production funding in the current or subsequent fiscal year.
