Knowledge Representation

Abstract

The Knowledge Representation thrust will develop much-needed tools to contextualize and analyze heterogeneous scientific data, facilitating field-wide hypothesis generation and testing. This will be accomplished by focusing on two key efforts: (1) the development of domain-agnostic mathematical tools for representing heterogeneous data and (2) the development of domain knowledge in a unified knowledge framework and domain-specific computational tools to embed observable data within the framework and enable tangible discoveries through computational analysis. To demonstrate the applicability of Knowledge Representation technology to multiple complex systems, the thrust will include validation across multiple disparate scientific and engineering fields. The technology developed under this thrust will revolutionize the process of scientific discovery by efficiently maximizing the potential of large, heterogeneous, multi-scale datasets across numerous complex scientific fields.
