Functional Materials and Devices
Abstract
(U) The goal of this thrust is to design material microstructures at the scale appropriate to exploit fundamental interactions with the environment in order to create materials with unique properties. Examples include nanostructured materials to slow light, negative refractive index systems, sensors that will enable room temperature sensitivity not currently available, and an array of other functional devices (antennas, dosimeters, etc.).
