Reliable Transmission over HF (NORTH)

Abstract

NORTH was a FY 2020 new start JCTD. NORTH directly supports the National Defense Strategy’s focus on command, control, communications, computers, intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance (C4ISR) and fully networked command, control and communications modernization. In FY 2021, NORTH will conduct a technical demonstration in simulated conditions which will demonstrate an ad hoc high frequency (HF) mesh networking system that operates through a range of contested environments to enhance fully networked C3 (FNC3), including Resilient Command and Control (RC2) and Nuclear Command, Control and Communications (NC3). NORTH will integrate with the Navy’s wideband HF mesh networking system and the Air Force’s digital HF radios and repeaters to optimize joint information transport datalinks based on sense and respond (S&R) of the spectral environment. All three systems together provide an enterprise solution which will increase operational effectiveness of resilient C3 in anti-access/area-denial environments.
