Commercial Radar Operational Support to U.S. Southern Command (CROSS)

Abstract

CROSS demonstrates the ability to task, on-demand, three commercial radar constellations and receive unclassified imagery to support operations and contingency planning activities. This capability provides U.S. Southern Command (SOUTHCOM) the ability to fulfill un-met lower resolution imagery tasks (e.g., Haiti disaster relief, Gulf oil spill, and specific classified military applications) within their area of responsibility. Upon successful demonstration at SOUTHCOM, CROSS will replicate a similar model at remaining Combatant Commands (COCOMs) and instantiate Non-Government Agencies' (NGA) contracts to provide direct and routine tasking and support for long-term COCOM radar imagery buys.
