HUMAN SYSTEMS DESIGN

Abstract

This activity supports the warfighter by designing affordable user-centered systems that are efficient, easy to use, and provide required mission capabilities at lowest lifecycle costs. Such systems will be optimally designed for the right number and types of personnel, requiring minimum training while providing high skills retention. Congressional, DoD, and Navy policies and instructions require the Navy and Marine Corps to have a comprehensive plan for Human Systems Design (HSD) in the acquisition process to optimize total system performance, minimize total ownership costs, and ensure the system is built to accommodate the characteristics of the user population that will operate, maintain, and support the systems. The increase in funding from FY 2011 to FY 2012 reflects the planned initiation of a new project and the planned funding profile of the other projects in this activity.
