Robust Automatic Translation of Speech (RATS)
Abstract
The Robust Automatic Translation of Speech (RATS) program will address noisy and hostile conditions where speech signals are degraded by distortion, reverberation, and/or competing conversation. Robust speech processing technologies will enable soldiers to hear or read clear English versions of what is being said in their vicinity, despite a noisy or reverberant environment. RATS technology will isolate and deliver pertinent information to the warfighter by detecting periods of speech activity and discarding silent portions, determining the language spoken, identifying the speaker, and recognizing key words in challenging environments.
