Radar Open System Architecture (ROSA) Refresh

Abstract

ROSA initial concept and implementation subdivided each of the RTS radars into logical and separable functional building blocks. Up to nine common subsystems including receivers, transmitters and antenna controls were designed using Commercial Off the Shelf (COTS) equipment to provide a unified framework, largely eliminating the very unique and custom hardware and software at each of the RTS radars. Over a decade of technology advancement and further maturity of industry standards have outdated the current ROSA implementation, posing a sustainability problem. This program will identify key subsystem technologies and architectures to stabilize future procurement, maintenance and operational capability across all RTS radars.
