Advanced Functional Fabrics of America (Smart Fibers and Textiles) (AFFOA)
Abstract
AFFOA accelerates transformation of the manufacture of traditional fibers, yarns, and textiles into highly sophisticated, integrated, and networked devices and systems. It is helping to convert the domestic textile industry into one differentiated by Intellectual Property (IP) and value-added technology. AFFOA mission outcomes will lead to highly functional fabrics that provide valuable services: fabrics that see, hear, sense, communicate, store and convert energy, regulate temperature, monitor health, and change color. AFFOA is translating these outcomes into new and improved textiles that benefit the warfighter as well as the commercial consumer.
