XTIM

Abstract

XTIM examined exploiting X-ray pulsars for navigation and time uses independent of, and supplemental to, GPS. The program studied using these sources to calculate position and absolute time, and then broadcasting this information to users either on the ground or in space as a method to enhance navigation solutions. This reference data could also be used to update the GPS constellation ephemerides and timing with limited or no ground support, and could provide an alternative timing source as a checksum for GPS receivers to insure detection of spoofing or sophisticated jamming attacks.
