Red Hill Bulk Fuel Storage Facility (RHBFSF)
Abstract
The Navy has been and will continue to be subject to scrutiny over Red Hill storage tanks and the fuel leaks associated with them. The increasing public interest and pressure to clean up the leaked fuel and decommission the tanks has resulted in the need to develop new technologies for tank cleanup and community relations projects promoting water resilience. The primary focus areas addressing the Red Hill tank fuel leaks are: (1) Water Resilience - investigate and demonstrate enhanced water resiliency technologies. (2) Hydrogeology - oversee the development of an independent and representative hydrogeologic model. (3) Innovation Initiatives - implement innovation challenges and Capstone student project based on problem statements relating to the Red Hill tanks. (4) Tank Cleaning Verification Technologies - oversee the demonstrate of ultraviolet Fluorescence to verify the cleaning of the Red Hill tanks.
