AEGIS DESTROYER BL 5 UPGRADES
Abstract
AEGIS BL 5 2020 combines previously independent AEGIS Combat System and BMD 4.1 into single AEGIS Computer Program, enabling near simultaneous transition between AAW and BMD operations for FLT I/II DDG's. This enables combined Air and Ballistic Missile Defense capability. AEGIS BL 5 2020 also has SM-6 integration and capabilities developed to address Fleet Urgent Operational Needs (UONs), including Digital Air Control Updates, Raid Improvements with Agile Storm and Prism, Expanded National Technical Means Function (NTF) with Agile Thunder, and Low Slow Flyer improvements with Agile Sundowner, Maintenance Updates, and Interop Improvements. Supports installation on DDG 68 in FY20. AEGIS BL 5 2021 build is a maintenance update to BL 5.4 2020 that includes critical updates to address Computer Program discrepancies identified since installing on DDG 68, the first BL 5 2020 ship. AEGIS BL 5 2023 delivers Low Noise Amplifier (LNA) array integration, NGSSR integration; GPS-based Positioning, Navigation, and Timing Service (GPNT)S; Agile Sundog, Sirocco, Silent Squall, & Vortex; C2P tech refresh; and BMD 4.2 (MDA-developed - SBT Inc 2 CU, performance against hypersonic threats, increases BMD raid capacity, expands BMD threat set and ship operating areas, improves electronic attack mitigation techniques, and track support to downrange SBT engagements). Required to support first install planned in FY24. AEGIS BL 5 2024 delivers emergent update to address findings identified during underway testing of BL 5 2023.
