Psychological Health & Resilience

Abstract

This effort supports and validates neurocognitive (relating to or involving the central nervous system and cognitive abilities) assessment and brain injury detection methods, and validates tools and preclinical methods to treat post-traumatic stress disorder in a military population. This effort also supports validation of interventions in Warfighters for post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), validation of biomarkers of individual PTSD symptoms, validation of methods to follow effectiveness of PTSD treatments, validation of neuroprotective (protection of nerves and nervous system) interventions and validation of strategies to prevent neurocognitive deficits (reduced ability to learn and comprehend) and symptomatology associated with brain injury. This effort matures and validates early interventions to prevent and reduce military stressor and combat-related behavioral health problems, including symptoms of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), depression, anger problems, anxiety, substance abuse, suicide, and other health risk behaviors. This effort matures and validates tools and interventions to enhance and sustain psychological resilience throughout Soldiers' careers.
