Aegis Ballistic Missile Defense 6.x Development

Abstract

U.S. Navy is developing the Advance Capability Build (ACB) 20 Combat System (CS) and the Air and Missile Defense Radar (AMDR), now designated SPY-6, for introduction on the first DDG Flight III. Aegis BMD 6.x development consists of two major components: Aegis BMD 6.0 and Aegis BMD 6.1. Aegis BMD 6.0 will integrate BMD 5.1 capability with the ACB 20 Combat System, to include new SPY-6 requirements; this will enable BMDS element utilization of AMDR data for remote engagements and supplement deployed assets with simultaneous multi-mission capabilities (e.g. IAMD). It will include updates for IAMD planning; search, track, and discrimination. Additionally, Aegis BMD 6.1 will continue to provide an increased BMD capability with the SPY-6 radar. It will include further updates for advanced threats, advanced planning, search, track, discrimination improvements; and kill assessment updates. SPY-6 will support force-level (multi-asset) approach to raid defense and will enable Navy ships to have a greater stand-off range from threat environments. Aegis BMD 6.1 will build upon BMD 6.0 and will serve as the path forward to achieve BMDS Increment 6 threats, Electro Optical Integration (EO/IR) for remote engagements, and increased raid capacity. Recurring Accomplishments: - Conduct trade studies and concepts supporting A-Spec development - Conduct development of BMD 6 ES - Conduct Aegis BMD low-level performance analysis supporting SFR - Prepare for Preliminary Design Review (PDR) - Continued participation in program leadership and technical forums including Program Management Team, System Engineering Cross Product Team (CPT), Capability Working Groups, Modeling & Simulation CPT, and Test, Evaluation & Certification CPT
