ANOTHER INVESTIGATION OF ASSOCIATIVE FACTORS IN REASONING

Abstract

A study was made of the influence of association patterns already present in subjects on their reasoning. The Maier 2-string problem was presented pictorially, and the influence of past associative patterns on the frequency of pendulum-type solutions was investigated. Results of the tests failed to substantiate the hypothesis that pendulum-type solutions would be more frequent in subjects whose past associative patterns placed them in the swing association group.
