PRODUCTION OF CERMETS BY FLASH SINTERING PROCESS - AND APPENDIX - SUMMARY REPORT COVERING THE PERIOD FROM 1 OCT 1950 THRU 31 MARCH 1952

Abstract

This summary report covering the period from 1 October 1950 through 31 March 1952 includes the historical background of the flash sintering process, a description of the equipment, and test results. The most favorable conditions of power input, time and pressure required to produce a nickel-titanium carbide compact of optimum physical characteristics was determined. Evaluation of sintered compacts was made by determination of density, hardness, modulus of rupture and optical analysis. Recorninendations for further work on this process are made.
