SURVEY OF OPTICAL METHODS FOR THE DETERMINATION OF TEMPERATURES IN ROCKET ENGINES

Abstract

The tabulated data include an outline of basic principles involved in application of a given technique, a description of the experimental arrangement, and key references to be consulted for further details. Optical methods for the determination of temperatures of isothermal radiators include: (1) determination of brightness temperatures, (2) two-color temperatures, (3) line-reversal temperatures, (4) the 2-path method, (5) compensated hot-wire method, (6) population temperatures, and (7) temperature measurements utilizing spectral line shape. Optical methods for measuring temperatures for nonisothermal emitters include: (1) reversal temperatures for nonisothermal emitters, (2) reversal temperatures utilizing measurements of spectral line shape, and (3) population temperatures.
