THE PSYCHODYNAMICS OF SMALL GROUPS

Abstract

The dimensions of 100 groups with 10 young men in each group we re measured for 32 personality factors, 45 group internal-structure variables, and 34 group performance variables. Measures of group performance were less reliable than measures of the performances of individuals, but an adequate simple structure of group dimensions was obtained and found to persist through the 3 sessions. The personality-factor profile of leaders, particularly the elected leaders, differed significantly from that of the followers. Recommendations were made for the study of group characteristics.
