TERRAIN, WEATHER, AND HYDROGRAPHIC CONDITIONS IN TURKEY AND ADJOINING COUNTRIES RELATIVE TO THEIR EFFECT ON ARMORED EMPLOYMENT. VOLUME 2

Abstract

A discussion is presented of the available information of the waterways, coasts, landing beaches, and ports of Turkey, south European Russia, and the Balkan Peninsula as strategic areas for military approach routes. The most favorable route for employment of large armor supported offensives to occupy the Crimean Peninsula as a lodgement area for penetrations into South Russia is by amphibious invasion. The second most favorable invasion route is through the Balkan Peninsula by seaports of Salonika and Trieste to consolidate the Balkan Area south of the Carpathian Mountains. The Caucasus Area is unfavorable for large armored formations in offensive warfare.
