THE S-BAND SPECTRUM OF HDO

Abstract

A Stark-modulated spectrometer was constructed for operation in the S-band region. A search in the range from 2150 to 4400 mc led to the discovery of several lines, 3 of which were identified as the 6 sub 1-6 sub 2, 9 sub 0-9 sub 1, and 4 sub 0 -5 sub 5 transitions at 2394.6 mc, 3044.7 mc, and 2888 mc, respectively. The identification of the 12 sub 2-12 sub 0 transition was not certain, but it was either at 2961 mc or 2991 mc. The centrifugal distortion formula of Kivelson and Wilson (J. Chem. Phys, 20:1575) could be used to fit the known Q-branch lines of HDO.
