THE YIELD LOAD OF A UNIFORM SLAB WITH A CIRCULAR CUT-OUT REINFORCED BY A BEVELLED RING

Abstract

An investigation indicated that, with a proper adhensive and an efficient antistatic treatment, Mylar polyester film should make a clear, strong, smooth, and reasonably scratch-resistant surface (1 mil or less in thickness) for meter window protectors of semi-rigid plastic. The results of efforts to include GS hydrophobic silica in solutions to produce hard coatings showed that no ordinary agitation is sufficient to smoothly disperse its ball-form aggregates. The scratch resistance of 16 formulations of modified Epon resin phthalic an hydride coatings on cellulose acetate seemed to be correlated with brittleness, lack of adhesion on flexure, and high dielectric strength. The cross-linking activity of a preparation of triglycidyl cyanurate was lower than indicated by its assay for epoxy groups. However, the copolymer with dichlorophthalic anhydride showed good adherence and flexibility on cellulose acetate sheet. Preliminary experiments in hydrolytically depositing silica from ethyl silicate solutions on cellulose acetate sheet gave results indicative of retained clarity combined with increased abrasion resistance. The flange design was used with 3 modes of attachment in some of the 15 experimental models of meter window protectors. These modes include: (1) nylon snap caps over special filister heads on bolts; (2) holes passing bolt shafts, but retaining heads; and (3) holes passing bolt heads, but retaining U-shaped washers under bolt heads.
